Not suprising that this hasnt been played up more in the mainstream press
In case you were not following, some points to note;
1. He is actually Brazilian, completely unconnected to any illegal activity
2. The 'cops' chasing after him were undercover and there was no way for him to verfiy their identity.
3. If twenty guys in one of the most racist countries in the world were chasing after him, with some of them possibly waving guns running probably seemed like a good idea.
4. The subway probably seemed like a safe place to hide from a group of attackers
5. He was wrestled to the ground and shot five times in the head.
